]]>On a recent trip to California to attend Author 101 University, I was surprised to find a couple of items in my carry on when getting ready to return home. I’d taken them through TSA screening and onto the planes and through the airports when traveling to California. I packed them into my checked luggage for the return trip because I didn’t want any trouble at the LAX airport, and I didn’t want to lose my kuboton, Cold Steel pocket stick, and tactical pen. Here’s a short video I made on the way home during my layover in Seattle. You can then see the items in the picture below.
The three items that were in my bag included a Kubotan and a Cold Steel pocket stick that are prohibited by the TSA. Do not take these items onto an airplane! I was lucky they were not noticed and confiscated. The pen falls into a category that is sometimes looked at, sometimes not. It will depend on the type of pen and who looks at it. Most should be okay, but if in doubt, put it into your checked baggage.
If you want to know more about what you can and can’t take onto an airplane, please refer to the official TSA website. The list does change, so be sure to check before you travel if you have any questions at all. It’s not worth the time it will take, getting in trouble, or having your items confiscated.
