The new mobile game Pokemon Go has become the new craze overnight as U.S. Fans are playing all over the country. But the mobile game has also played a role in armed robberies in Missouri, the discovery of a body in Wyoming, and injuries to people distracted by the app.
It’s led to this statement by Pokemon Company International and Niantic,” We encourage all people playing Pokemon Go to be aware of their surroundings and to play with friends when going to new or unfamiliar places.”
How about this? Get your head out of your apps and pay more attention to the world and people around you. How about experiencing nature? What about interacting with people in person, rather than an imaginary something on a device?
It’s sort of like a meme a friend posted, the essence was, “I don’t know anything about Pokemon Go because I’m not 10 years old and I have things to do.” That’s where I was until people starting writing me about my thoughts on this new craze.
I recorded these two videos with some of my thoughts:
Play games if you want. We all need to find ways to rest and relax. Personally, I prefer reading books as my “R&R” time. I’ve never gotten into video games of any kind. But if you like video games, and games on your device, that’s great. Just be safe about it.
It is ridiculous how many people are injured and killed each year because of being distracted by their phone. What is worse is some of these people are killed by others distracted by their phones. This Pokemon Go game is just the newest fad to take our attention away from reality.
Here’s a thought. Let’s make reality so great that we don’t need to be distracted by virtual games on devices.
If you or your kids do play games, please pay attention to the advice in the video above, and in these two videos from Today Show and Good Morning America. (7-12-16) Enjoy Life Safely!
