<\/iframe><\/p>\nSURVIVE A MOB SURROUNDING YOUR CAR<\/p>\nAvoid The Area<\/p>\nThe best way to survive a mob is not to be there in the first place. \nI’ve taken some flack before when I’ve shared advice from Robert \nRichardson’s book \u201cThe Ultimate Situational Survival Guide.\u201d However, \nI still believe it to be good advice. This is what he wrote: \u201cStay \naway from any type of social justice rally especially if it’s a rally \nto protest a prior act of violence. Ironically, these types of rallies \noften have a way of inciting even more violence and can quickly get \nout of control.<\/p>\nFollow news reports and social media activity to know where high-risk \nactivity is taking place and stay away. If you see something up ahead, \nsuch as a mob blocking a road, get away. Stop, turn around and get out \nof there. One more reason to be paying attention to the road and not \nyour phone.<\/p>\nAvoiding the area really is the best way to ensure your safety.<\/p>\nPush With Your Car – Don’t Run Over People<\/p>\nDespite the advice of some, and the flippant tweets that may be out \nthere, just running over rioters is not an option you should take \nunless you are in fear for your life and have a reasonable, and let me \nrepeat, reasonable, belief that you will sustain serious injuries or \nbe killed if you don’t run over the aggressors to stop them and get to \nsafety.<\/p>\nWhile running over a rioter may be self-defense, you will have to \narticulate why you were justified in using lethal force (running over \nsomeone can cause serious bodily injury or death).<\/p>\nIn response to the question, \u201cis it lawful self-defense to run down \nrioters surrounding your vehicle?\u201d attorney and author Andrew Branca \nanswered, \u201cIn short, one would apply the usual five elements of a \nself-defense justification to evaluate such a use of force against \nothers, just as in any other instance of self-defense. Those elements \nare, of course: innocence, imminence, proportionality, avoidance, and \nreasonableness.\u201d<\/p>\nThis means it can be self-defense if you run over a rioter, but you \nwill have to prove the elements that make such an action self-defense. \nHere is another important point that Branca made in his answer to the \nquestion, \u201cIt is also worth noting that if you respond to even a \nlegitimate threat that is non-deadly in nature with a deadly force \nresponse, it’s quite possible that you will be deemed the deadly force \naggressor, even if the other party was the non-deadly force aggressor. \nIn that case the other party could well be legally justified in using \ndeadly defensive force against your deadly force aggression.\u201d<\/p>\nA better tactic if your car is surrounded it to push or bump people \nout of the way. This can also be considered vehicular assault, but is \na better way to get out of a mob than running people over. Try to keep \na steady move forward. Don’t stop. Once you are clear of people, get \nout of the area as fast as safely possible.<\/p>\nBe sure to keep your doors locked. Many automatically lock when \ndriving these days, but if yours don’t, get in the habit of locking \nthem when you get in before you start driving. Here is a tip I got \nfrom a blog by Greg Ellifritz: \u201cCracking your windows and turning off \nyour ventilation system would also be a good idea when driving in \nareas were crowds may gather. Windows that are down approximately one \nhalf an inch are actually harder to break than windows that are \ntightly closed.\u201d (I highly recommend Greg’s Active Response Training \nblog.)<\/p>\nBe on the lookout for other kinds of roadblocks and it would also be a \ngood idea to educate yourself in basic escape and evasion driving.<\/p>\nObviously there is more that can be learned, but this will give you a \nheads up if you encounter a mob while in your vehicle. I sure hope you \ndon’t, so stay aware and avoid these kinds of areas.<\/p>\nCrowds and Safety<\/strong><\/p>\nA few tips regarding crowds:<\/p>\n\u2022 Don\u2019t be there if at all possible. Avoid crowds, especially crowds \nof young men, and especially of young drunken men. \n\u2022 If you\u2019re in a crowd by choice, pay attention to your intuition and \nyour feelings (the atmospherics or situational awareness) of the \nenergy\/mood of the crowd. \n\u2022 If you\u2019re in a crowd by choice, have a partner or several friends. \nDon\u2019t be alone and don\u2019t allow yourself to be isolated in the crowd, \nespecially as a woman surrounded by men. Look for other women or men \nwho will stand with you or stand up for you and ask for help. \n\u2022 If the crowd gets ugly, get out as fast as you can. The earlier you \nsense the change and the faster you move, the less likely you are to \nget caught up in it. \n\u2022 If you become a target, keep moving. Move away, don\u2019t stop and don\u2019t \nlet yourself be stopped. \n\u2022 If you are grabbed, you must have previously made a decision about \nwhat to do and act instantly on it. A fast decisive attack may \ndissuade, distract, or delay others for you to get away\u2026or it may \nincite even more violence. If you are fighting bare handed against a \nmob focused on beating and or raping you, it\u2019s like fighting a tidal \nwave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This video was filmed live on Facebook on 8\/2\/17\u00a0as part of a Go Live Every Day in August challenge.
