SOG Voodoo Hawk Mini
I have always been into knives more than tomahawks, even though I did use my hatchet when camping as a boy quite a bit. I realize the usefulness of a tomahawk, both as a potential weapon, and a tool, so when offered this by Vine I eagerly accepted. I’m not disappointed in this Voodoo Hawk Mini by SOG at all. It is a nice addition to my arsenal and is small and versatile enough to be useful in different ways, including camping and the potential zombie apocalypse that The Walking Dead foreshadows.
This SOG Voodoo Hawk Mini is a combination of SOG’s tactical Tomahawk and FastHawk. It is smaller and lighter version made for backpackers, hikers, hunters and paddlers. It has a glass-reinfored nylon handle, extended cutting head, spike for piercing, and a metal pommel cap. It comes with a top loading synthetic nylon sheath for belt carry.
I like SOG products for being durable at affordable prices, and I find this tomahawk fitting that description. Yes, it is made in China, but it is a decent tool at a reasonable price. It is small, and lightweight, so it is more suitable for smaller tasks. Great for getting kindling, but not as good if you needed to split larger wood or heavy duty chopping. It is a small tomahawk after all, not an ax. The metal pommel would be okay for pounding in tent stakes or similar tasks, but it isn’t going to do what a good hammer would.
The back spike has limited uses as well, but seems pretty strong for what it is. I think it would definitely sink into a zombie’s brain if you were forced to fight them off with just this.
I also like that SOG has a Lifetime Warranty. I’m not sure just what all this covers, but it is listed prominently on the packaging.
The last thing I’ll mention is that this tactical tool from the SOG line looks “cool.” I’m guessing some people will want one for that very reason, and that’s okay. Because even though it is a tool, and not a toy, there is nothing wrong with a tool looking cool and tough, and this Voodoo Mini Hawk does look cool and tough. I like it, and it makes a good addition to my other bladed weapons.

SOG Throwing Hawks
I’ve always been one that liked to keep a hold of my weapons rather than throw them. With that said, I’ve enjoyed practicing throwing since I was young. I used to stick sharpened throwing stars in all sorts of things when younger, and I’ve practiced off and on with throwing knives throughout the years. While I’m nowhere near as good as some of those I’ve taken classes from, I find it an enjoyable thing to do with my other martial art training.
I haven’t thrown tomahawks, but have wanted to. Now, with this set of three throwing hawks from SOG, I’m learning and practicing a bit. SOG is a known company for affordable and durable tools, which includes many bladed items. I’ve liked the products I’ve purchased from them in the past, and I like this set of throwing hawks.
The are solid steel with a paracord wrapped handle. One side has an ax head and the other a point. They are balanced for throwing, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to practice to get it down. Besides throwing, it is a handy little tool for the woods. They are small and lightweight, but tough enough to do small tasks like getting kindling ready for a fire. They are a solid little hawk. They come with a bottom loading synthetic nylon sheath that holds all three for an upside down carry.
I also like that SOG has a Lifetime Warranty. I’m not sure just what all this covers, but it is listed prominently on the packaging.
I’m looking forward to practicing more with these because it is fun. I’ll get out my copy of Michael Janich’s “Making It Stick” and continue to practice. Recommend for anyone wanting to do the same.
